The Happiness Project: Being Thankful for What We Have

Beach Day.
Photo from May 2009

This weekend our family went with several others
from our Sundays chool class
for a day at the beach.
It was another incredibly fun day with our family and our friends.
I have lived about 10 minutes (less depending on the traffic)
from the beach my entire life,
and this was the 2nd time in 2 years that I've gone.
And before that, I probably went years between visits.
I think that because I've just know it's always there,
I've probably taken it for granted.

I don't want to take it for granted anymore.

Dude. You're kidding. Only 2 times in 2 years?! Oh well. I would probably do that too.
Cuz really, the beach is sorta a chore.
But the picture is awesome and I'm just imagining the fun times!

I so get that. We had a pool growing up and after a while, it got to the point where I wasn't in it all the time. My friends could never understand. You do take it for granted. I love your pic!

What a great pic!

Thinking about the situation in Pensacola, I'm sad for all the days I could have spent there and didn't.

Say wha? But then I knew the absense of leathery skin meant you didn't spend much time surfing it up...but wha?

You must go more often. I try to get there once a week in the summer, it's about 20 minutes away with no traffic.

This picture just makes me smile. For a few years I lived less than a block from the beach and loved it.

Yep, pretty sure I'd be at the beach every day. But then that's probably because I used to be coastal and now I'm land-locked. You never know how to truly appreciate something til it's not at your disposal anymore.

Very happy picture:D

Beautiful! I think that we all take for granted what is always there.

Ten minutes? Wow. That's like living in Arizona and only seeing the Grand Canyon once in fifteen years.
Oh, that's me.
See? We all get busy. Maybe I need to add the Grand Canyon to my summer list. Thanks for the inspiration.
Just discovered your blog from Leigh v. Laundry. Glad I stopped over here.

we're exactly the same way! We go every now and then but Little Man is scared of the water, so he hides up on the beach the whole time

I'm completely jealous! We don't have a beach near us. Love the photo!

Love this post and the picture!

I looove the beach. Ours are closed now because of the oil and tar balls :( So, so sad.

I haven't been to the beach in a while...my dad has a condo in Pensacola and we were last there when the girls were 18 months old (it was a disaster of a trip and we ended up having to leave early b/c we were all sick---it was over July 4th, actually)....

I love the pic. I love the post. But it makes me sad.

I understand! When we were right on it, we went all the time. Now, about a 20 minute drive and "that's too far."

I've always lived close to a lake and my family has a cabin there. Pretty much spent every weekend out there when I was younger and the lake isn't really my fave thing now, but I'm trying to get into it again because my kids love it. We just went out with a group of church friends on Sunday and had a blast.

2x a year??? that's it? You are crazy! we go 2x a year and I live 7 hours away ;)

I get it though, it doesn't have the same appeal when you've grown up there.

I love that pic~ precious!!

I love, LOVE the beach....good or bad weather. Take the time to enjoy it. It can be a great stress reliever even when you think you're not stressed.

Your location to the ocean is my location to the lake. I have lived here for 10 years and I've been to the lake never. I stink.

I like to think I'd be there all the time but in reality I probably wouldn't.

Love the pic!

OMY WHAT? 10mins from the beach and you never go??? Your beach card should be revoked!!!

:-D

Love the pic and LOVE that you are not going to take it for granted. Because, HEY, you have to enjoy it for me too. I am 5 hours from the closest crappy beach, 6 hours to a decent one.

Oh, I'm jealous! I haven't been to the beach since I was 12 or 13 maybe. I would love to take my kids - they've never went and neither has my husband. That's his thing, "I've never seen the ocean"...

We definately need to go one day :)
