I'm back! I can see that my blog was well taken care of with the incredible guest posts, even though Kearsie wondered if I ever got blemishes on my chin and that very night, I did!! (So Kearsie, could you please wonder if I'm going to get a minivan? Thanks!)
As I mentioned, last week was Vacation Bible School at my church. What I did not mention was that The Husband was going to be out of town for the entire week as well. On the one hand, at least I was busy every night while he was gone, preparing the Bible story for the 1st through 6th graders. (Our VBS does a rotation, so each class goes on their own schedule through music, missions, Bible story, crafts, recreation/snack.) On the other hand, I had very little adult time! Very. little.
Thankfully, my wonderful mother-in-law was sweet enough to watch my girls one night so I could take in a movie with my mom and BFF. Soooooo...

I get to link up with Messy Mommy for her Movie Monday!
What did we see?
Sex And The City 2. (Warning: spoilers ahead!)
Don't judge me.
Well, you can if you want, I won't judge you for judging me.
I actually won tickets to see the first one, and I closed my eyes during the dirty stuff. I did the same during this one. It's not like there was a ton, but it just grosses me out.
For me, they could have taken the entire Samantha portion of the movie out, and I would've been fine. Of course, if they took the Samantha portion out entirely, there would have been no reason for the girls to go globe-trotting, and no real plot. So I guess that wouldn't have worked.
I understand that it's Sex And The City, and I understand that what made it such a big deal initially was how open it was about sex -- but aren't we beyond that? I mean, the movie seemed to be more about marriage and mommyhood, do we really need to see Speedos and erections and sex?
My answer: HECK NO.
Anyway.
Other than the parts where Samantha behaved and talked like an immature teenage boy, I enjoyed the movie a lot. I thought it was fun and real and I especially liked the part when Miranda got Charlotte to admit that BEING A MOMMY IS HARD! And they acknowledged that they had it hard WITH husbands and WITH HELP (hello! Charlotte has a full-time nanny, and Miranda has Magda!), and they toasted the moms who do it on their own.
Miranda said, "To them!" and I shouted, "TO US!"
And the other 6 women in the theater clapped.
And, as usual, I wanted to just sit there and shake Carrie. YOU ARE MARRIED, YOU DO NOT GO OUT TO DINNER WITH YOUR EX-BOYFRIEND, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE IN A FUNK WITH YOUR HUSBAND!
*shake* *shake* *shake*
No, really, I did like the movie!
I wouldn't say it's one that MUST be seen in the theater, you can definitely wait to watch it at home. Or, for someone like me, wait until they show it on cable so you won't have to cover your eyes for parts of it...
Don't cover your eyes for the part with Liza Minelli though. That was pretty impressive!
Did you see the movie? Did you like it? Are you like me and started watching it on TBS so you feel pretty sheltered?

I saw the movie. In my opinion, it was just okay. I thought they could have done more with marriage. I loved the part where Charlotte admitted how hard it is to be a mother. Hooray! She grew up! I think Miranda did, too, in making a switch in careers. Samantha? Carrie? Um, not so much!
Liza Minelli was amazing! I was fascinated by Abu Dhabi and had to google it. Apparently it is a huge tourist destination...don't think I'm going any time soon, though.
Oh My Word, I HEART you. I felt old when I watched it, because I hate the Sex stuff. And I get that it's in the title, but come on. Most of the humor was on a 6th grade boys level. I LOVE the TBS-versions of this show. I hate that in the movies, they took these 4 women and exagerated (sp?) their characters to such unbelievable proportions. Also, sadly, I have been in Carrie's shoes, and those invites are tough to turn down....
I must be the only woman in America who has NEVER watched the series and has NEVER seen the movies -- and NEVER will! I may cave in to the Twilight peer pressure, but SITC?? No thanks!
Thanks for completely ruining this movie for me by giving away the entire plot.
I mean you could have said *spoilers* or something
*looks again*
oh you did. Me idiot, you Vanessa.
Samantha got on my nerves, I'll admit. It was a bit too much for me.
I thought the movie, overall, was pretty cute. I couldn't believe Carrie either, but I do like Aiden. I like Big, too, though. I told my friend, "man, if I knew I'd get THAT kind of reward for kissing another man, I would've done it a long time ago!" I was being sarcastic, of course. Who gets rewarded anyway?
Oh, and my favorite part was probably when Charlotte admitted that sometimes being a parent is not all happy, thankfulness. It's hard work and there are moments when you think you might just break! There are days that I'd give my right arm to have a nanny!
i'm leaving a comment to say hello! i didn't read b/c i haven't seen satc2 yet.
glad to have you back!
You know what is funny? My mom and I watched it on TBS and thought it was kind of a cute show. Then the first movie came out.....whew! We realized the difference between tbs and hbo right away! Talk about a bait and switch! I will probably see the second one when it comes out on dvd.
I agree on the SATC thing- Samantha is not my style! Glad you had a good time!
Samantha got on my nerves in the series...I'm not sure I could handle her in a movie. I liked the TV show but haven't yet seen either movie. Glad you had a fun night out!
I'm gonna rent the seasons from Netflix...I never watched it. But I hear so much good stuff about it...although S.E.X. (see, i can't even say it, i spell it) sorta makes me nervous. Don't know why.
I just saw it this weekend. I have to say I liked the first one better:) Now I did love that the girls acknowledged being a Mama is hard! And of course the best part of both movies for me is that incredible bond those 4 women have. Friendship like that. Fabulous!
I watched it on HBO so I knew what I was getting into. I didn't expect a show with the word sex in the title to not have a lot of it.
I haven't seen it- I will wait for the dvd.
I saw it last weekend, and I LOVED the part about mommyhood being hard. Someone said what we all are thinking!
I thought it was okay...the mommy part was the closest thing to real in the whole movie. As much as I'm not a fan of the Samantha character - and her underwear off at work?? gross! - the carrie thing made me angry. She was sooo ungrateful for Big! I get that a TV is not a romantic anniv gift, but what it represented to him WAS romantic and she should have appreciated that. And if you cheat, you shouldn't get rewarded. Period. Okay, I'm done ranting;-)
I haven't seen it. To me it's the kind of thing you see with girlfriends and I have none of those close by. *waaah*
Having said that I was a HUGE fan of the series. I still re-watch it on dvd from time to time.
Don't you love how this was the one week I didn't do Movie Monday? You can link this up next week! SORRY!
