Note to Self: Judging Books Edition

  • You went on a trip a couple of weeks ago.
  • You looked for a couple of books to bring along with you.
  • You couldn't find the books you wanted.
  • Namely books you hadn't yet read that were written by either Jennifer Weiner or Lisa Scottoline.
  • You were desperate.
  • You almost, almost, picked up...
  • ... SAY IT!
  • Twilight.
  • But you didn't.
  • You found out Judy Blume (warning: that site has audio and I don't know what it is because I muted it) writes for adults.
  • Sort of.
  • Summer Sisters was like the books you read of hers when you were younger.
  • Only not.
  • Because you didn't like it.
  • At all.
  • The time would've been better spent... Doing anything other than reading that book, really.
  • Thankfully you also found a John Grisham that you hadn't read as well.
  • The Associate.
  • It was a much better read.
  • You felt a little jipped at the end, though.
  • This week you went to the library.
  • And did a little happy dance in the fiction section.
  • They had Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner and Daddy's Girl by Lisa Scottoline.
  • You are reading Certain Girls and taking your time.
  • Because now you appreciate a good read a little lot more.
  • Also, those books prevented you from reading...
  • ... SAY IT!
  • Twilight.
  • Will you ever break down and pick it up?
  • Maybe.
  • If you're one day forced to choose between Twilight and another Judy Blume.
  • Because your life depends on it.
  • Or because it makes for a good photo op.

Have a great weekend!

Forced to choose between Twilight or Judy Blume? Can I pick the pike my eyes out with hot pokers option?

I would much rather stick with the Weiner, Scottoline, or even the Grisham!

I love Jennifer Weiner. I haven't read Scottoline yet. I'm putting her on my list for the library.

I'm an equal opportunity reader and will read anything and everything. Judy Blume and Twilight both make me happy! There's a great website where you can see what other people who like the same books are you are reading.

I'll never pick it up, either. SO NOT MY THING...On another note, don't just look at your library. Go to the county library website and see what all is there. If it isn't at the library near your house, they will send them there from anywhere in the county. Just an FYI in case you didn't already know. ;) Our library hardly ever has the ones I want.

I read Certain Girls while laying by the beach in Mexico last year. It's good. I liked it and I don't read as much as I should. (too busy crocheting). Let me know what you think when you're done.

C'mon DO IT. Twilight Twilight Twilight!

I read the #1 bestsellers on the NY Times. That usually ensures they're good. I hate wasting time on a crappy book. One of my fave authors is Jodi Picoult!

I didn't like that book, either.

I can't remember if I read that John Grisham or not. I like his books, but I tend to forget which one is which. LOL

Oh just do it! Twilight isn't so bad girl. You'd like it. :)
Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors too. Have you read her?

You won't even give Twilight a chance?! Come oooon! *sigh* I've read some J.Grisham books that I liked but never the Associate.

Girl, I started the first Twilight book...and couldn't get through it. Not my cup of tea I suppose :)

And I LOVE Jennifer Weiner! Favorite author ever.

I also love Mary Kay Andrews--have you read any of hers? Her books are fabulous!

Off to check out the Lisa author you love!

It's me again, haha! I read Look Again from Lisa Scottoline--I just looked her up and was all, hey! I have read her!

Sookie books. You NEED Sookie books! Seriously. Don't do the Twilight thing. I did and I feel like I've compromised my principles. lol

Jennifer Weiner rocks. Love her books.

I love Judy Blume too. I wish she'd come out with another book.

I miss the days of devouring a great novel. Lately, I can't read anything that can't be read in the bathroom while I'm hiding from my kids. I am sad and pathetic.

OMG! If I had to choose between Judy Blum & Twilight, I think I'd just choose to take a nap. YIKES! (Although, I've hear the Twilight books are better than the movies.)

Tracie said...

You haven't read Twilight????

(You haven't missed much. Don't tell anyone I said that.)

Oh just go for Twilight!! I swore to a friend that I wouldn't like it and she finally convinced me to read it. I was obsessed like all those teeny boppers...seriously. Even my husband, who hasn't read the books, loves the movies.

I'm reading Best Friends right now by Jennifer Weiner...LOVE her!!!!

okay, I haven't read anything by Jennifer Weiner or Lisa Scottoline- I am so out of the loop, what kind of books are they? judy blume was bad huh? I loved her as a kid...

the first twilight movie i couldn't get through so i never picked up the books either... I think it is probably because of the Kristin girl who plays the lead character... Blechhhh... that girl is way too emo-monotone for me. i can't stand watching her... ;)

I'm resisting Twilight too. Not sure why though.

I have 2 comments:
1. "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret"
2. Sounds like you need a copy of "Totally Desperate Mom: Keepin' it Real in the Motherhood." Want me to send you a copy? And if it doesn't suck you can post about it on your blog as you search for worthy books?

See Mom Smile said...

You will not read it in a house, or with a mouse or in the rain or on a train? Never say never!

Sara said...

Ugh, I've had to do this, too.

Except I picked up the Twilight.

And then I read all of them.

I was a Twilight snob too, well not really a "snob" but definitely couldn't imagine what the fuss was all about & wasn't interested in knowing. Then hubby's coworker sent them home to me with a note that said "just give them a chance." The first two are a bit of a slow start, but stick with 'em, because the pace picks up.

I ended up reading ALL FOUR BOOKS in 4 & 1/2 days!

#1 Twilight isn't all that will breeze through them.

#2 Read "The Help" you will love it. promise...and it will be a movie read it before it comes out.

#3 Adriana Trigiani has some good stuff "Lucia, Lucia" being one of my faves.
